The #IndiaWantsCrypto campaign, which Nischal Shetty, Founder & CEO, WazirX, launched on November 1, 2018, has now reached 1000 days!
After the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) prohibited Indian banks from doing business with cryptocurrency exchanges, Nischal launched the campaign.
Despite the fact that the exchange was fighting the RBI in the Supreme Court as part of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), Shetty realised that the bigger reason for the banking ban was a lack of awareness about crypto among the general public and regulators.
As a result, he launched the campaign with the goal of disseminating accurate information about cryptocurrency and mobilising India’s crypto community to explore appropriate policies.
India’s leading crypto exchange also pinned the tweeted thread of their CEO Nischal to celebrate the very moment.
There is also a contest held by WazirX in which 5 lucky people will get 20000 satoshis each.
Nischal used the hashtag #IndiaWantsCrypto to tweet lawmakers every day, urging them to pass legislation that would benefit India.
A simple but powerful slogan – India Wants Crypto – quickly became a rallying cry for millions and brought the Indian crypto movement together.
From day 1 to day 1000th, Nischal used the hashtag in his each and every tweet. From his tweets to his bio everywhere he puts #IndiaWantsCrypto.
“From then till now, the journey has been very overwhelming,” Nischal Shetty, CEO of WazirX, said on the campaign’s 1000th day.
He further added, “One of the major challenges has been creating awareness. Due to the uncertainty and lack of communication, most people were under the belief that crypto is illegal in India. Over time, many people joined this campaign, and it’s been picked up by journalists and influencers globally. Our mission has been to make crypto
accessible to the masses in India including the creation of an environment where crypto and blockchain entrepreneurs can thrive. The aim is to create a safe environment for investors and traders that will allow positive regulation in the country.”
After every milestone, people started joining the crypto movement and praised Nischal over his continuous effort for not giving up.
