According to the CEO of AMC Theatres, the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency payment option will be available through BitPay in 2-4 months.

AMC Theatres, situated in the United States, is scheduled to accept the meme-inspired cryptocurrency and Dogecoin rival Shiba Inu (SHIB) as well, only days after opening up online cryptocurrency payments for moviegoers. Within the next two to four months, AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron said that the company would begin taking SHIB for online payment. Aron announced the decision on Twitter, revealing that he personally urged BitPay, the blockchain payments business used by AMC Theatres, to endorse Shiba Inu, which has gained widespread favor in recent weeks.

According to Aron’s tweet, cryptocurrency payment processor BitPay is “specifically” adding Shiba Inu since he requested it so that AMC could take the meme-inspired cryptocurrency for online movie ticket and concession purchases. Aron had asked if the firm should take Shiba Inu payments in a Twitter poll in late October, and 81.4 percent of participants said “absolutely.”

During an earnings call earlier this month, DAMC Theatres stated that it was already looking at ways to accept Shiba Inu. Aron had previously stated that the business had discovered a way that allowed it to avoid having to keep cryptocurrency on its balance sheet, with all of the dangers it entailed.

By the end of the year, AMC plans to accept Bitcoin and a variety of other cryptocurrencies as a form of payment when purchasing tickets online, according to the CEO. The decision comes more than three months after the famous movie theatre operator indicated during an earnings conference that cryptocurrency payments for online transactions will be permitted before the end of 2021. Customers will be able to purchase movie tickets using Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash in addition to Bitcoin, according to AMC. Dogecoin is also anticipated to be added to the list in the near future.

Purchases in Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash for online tickets will be permitted through PayPal, while Shiba Inu payments will be channeled through BitPay, according to the release. Meanwhile, AMC accepts payments via Google Pay and Apple Pay, however, neither of these services currently supports cryptocurrency.

Because the corporation has been a leader in crypto adoption and currently takes Dogecoin as payment for gift cards through a collaboration with BitPay, full-fledged support is likely not far off, especially because it’s the “people’s crypto.”

AMC also announced plans to establish more than a dozen new sites across the US, Europe, and the Middle East in the near future, in addition to cryptocurrency adoption. 950 theatres and 10,500 screens are now owned by corporations across the world.
