Swift, a leader in global financial messaging, has reported advancements in the testing of its CBDC interoperability solution, as we reported earlier. Swift is collaborating extensively with the banking sector to enable cross-border adoption of CBDCs as they develop.

Due to this, a solution was created in October 2022 that would allow CBDCs to switch between DLT-based and fiat-based systems utilizing the current financial infrastructure. With 18 central and commercial institutions, including the Bank de France, the German Bundesbank, and the Monetary Authority of Singapore, among others, Swift claims it has tested the solution in a sandbox environment. Four other central banks watched the sandbox testing from the sidelines.

The financial messaging giant announces it will create a beta version of the payment solution in the upcoming months in response to favorable testing results. There will also be a second round of sandbox testing, with a focus on fresh use cases such as cross-asset exchange, trade financing, and conditional payments.

    Ripple advances CBDC compatibility

Developers were urged to create CBDC apps employing Ripple's technology in retail, interoperability, and financial inclusion as part of a CBDC Innovate Challenge sponsored by Ripple in 2022. Retail customers may make payments in various currencies, including CBDCs, cryptocurrencies, and stablecoins, using the XRP Ledger-based SpendTheBits (STB).

The SpendTheBits app combines a CBDC portal, a mobile and merchant app, and an exchange portal for interoperability and liquidity. Regarding creating a central bank digital currency, Brooks Entwistle, managing director of Ripple's APAC and MENA regions, recently revealed in an interview that the business was in discussions with more than 20 central banks.

This CBDC endeavor will also help to improve crypto regulation.
