Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, released an updated Ethereum roadmap on Saturday. Following the successful completion of the Merge, the following stages are Surge, Scourge, Verge, Purge, and Splurge to be implemented.

Among the significant modifications are: The Verge is about "verification,"; the endpoint will be entirely on zkSNARK.

The new phase "The Scourge," provides reliable and fair genuinely neutral transaction inclusion and solves MEV concerns; and a single slot finality as the stage 2 Merge milestone.

The previous 5-phase Ethereum roadmap, which details how the network will reach scalability, has been enhanced by the update posted on Twitter.

On November 5, Buterin announced an updated Ethereum roadmap in a series of tweets. The Ethereum roadmap, in particular, now includes a new phase termed "The Scourge," which focuses on assuring reliable and fair genuinely neutral transaction inclusion. It also aims to address the issues of centralisation and censorship that arose during the Merge by switching to proof-of-stake.

The Verge will include "verkle trees," which contain more data in a compact proof, enabling a lower node size. The phase now includes "verification" to make confirming blocks with SNARKs which is a zero-knowledge proof encryption method.

Moreover, each category has its own set of milestones. The involvement of quantum proofs will be more evident as an essential feature of the "endgame" protocol.

After 51% of Ethereum blocks meet OFAC rules, growing censorship has become a major problem. According to mevWatch statistics, the minting of OFAC-compliant blocks has reached 73% in the previous 24 hours.

Vitalik Buterin's "The Scourge" phase aims to address MEV concerns. Buterin has even proposed "partial block auctions" to alleviate Ethereum censorship. He argues that "partial block auctions" can decentralize block manufacturing, limiting builders' influence. Furthermore, using a non-censoring MEV-Boost relay will maintain Ethereum's neutrality.

At the time of publishing, the price of Ethereum is $1652, up more than 4% in the previous 24 hours. Ethereum's 24-hour low and high are $1,569 and $1,661, respectively.
