What You Can Expect
Binance will be the official bitcoin and technology network for the AFCON 2021 competition, bringing our successful presence and innovation to African football.
Binance will be the official sponsor of the Help of day / Binance Tip of the Week / Binance Assistance of the Tournament, which will be marketed via CAF’s social media platforms as well as across all six stadiums in Cameroon’s five cities.
The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations began on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at 5 p.m. (WAT) at Olembe Stadium, Yaounde, featuring Cameroon taking against Burkina Faso. The competition will be aired live by more than 160 countries to a viewership of about 300 million people.
“I am thrilled to welcome Binance as an official sponsor of the AFCON competition this year,” said CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba. Binance’s engagement with CAF will allow it to connect with its customers and the African population on a more personal level. “CAF is eager to accept blockchain-based technologies and its implications for African football growth in the future. I am certain that we can take African football to a new level together with Binance.”
Binance has offered free virtual currency educational sessions to about 541,000 Africans since 2020, as part of our quest to boost technology acceptance and increase access to banking services for the world’s financially excluded. Topics range from essential responsibilities to pursuing a business in cryptocurrency.
“With a population of 1.2 billion Africans and the prevalence of blockchain technology and its use cases, we believe the African continent could lead the future of the blockchain industry,” said Yi He, co-founder, and CMO of Binance. We will continue to push for the mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency so that more people can understand crypto and Binance.”
The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations tournament kicks off Africa’s sporting schedule for the year. “Football is the most popular sport in Africa, one that unites the entire continent, and as the leading blockchain ecosystem, we are proud to be an official sponsor of the AFCON tournament,” said Emmanuel Babalola, Binance Director for Africa. This validates our goal of bringing crypto into the public consciousness across the continent.”
