Dfinity’s Free NFTs
This Wednesday, dated September 1, Dfinity’s Internet Computer announced the release of 10,000 non-fungible tokens (NFT). Users can claim their free tokens on Wednesdays at 20:00 UTC. Both the brothers Przemek and Tomasz Chojecki with Adam Stepnik are the persons who thought of and then developed the concept of dropping these NFTs.
The three of them got the inspiration to create avatars, comparing the acronym to the hip-hop duo of the 90s Insane Clown Posse and the prodigious success of the legendary CryptoPunk NFTs. After a series of exclusive early releases, only 3,000 punks are expected to be available to claim, one punk per user at launch. The co-founder of the project, Przemek talked about his expectations regarding the launch of these NFTs saying:
“We’re incredibly excited for the launch of ICPunks on the Internet Computer. The NFT space is moving at such a rapid pace — it is amazing to be part of it. We have a lot of plans for ICPunks, including an NFT Marketplace, this is the first step towards that.”
The internet computer or the ICP is a digital or a crypto token that people use to create apps, websites, and many more web-based services. Community members have already created alternatives to popular social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Medium, and WhatsApp.
Moreover, they have also created alternatives for different community-driven websites like Reddit. Also, according to a tweet shared recently, the ICPunk drop has accumulated significant attention from the crypto community. Analytics reported a whopping of 89,000 visitors to the NFT website since its launch.
Tomasz’s Thoughts In This Context
Tomasz also spoke about this recent Dfinity partnership:
“We have been following Dfinity’s work since 2017. We believe the Internet Computer is the best solution for NFTs. One of the benefits of the Internet Computer is that all information is stored on-chain. There is no need to use IPFS or dedicated web servers to host images. It’s truly a decentralized NFT solution.”
The NFT market has seen an out-of-the-ordinary and continuous growth since the last year. It included a well-established roster of well-known brands, celebrities, and many public figures who have contributed to the NFT field. Just the last week itself, Visa, the credit card company announced that it has acquired a CryptoPunk NFT for $150,000.
Moreover, this week, the well-renowned Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka announced that she launched her collection of rare tokens before the start of the US Open tournament.
