As more clubs incorporate crypto into their day-to-day operations, the football ecosystem has ramped up its adoption game.

PSV Eindhoven, a Dutch top-tier football team, has joined with local crypto trading site Anycoin Direct, which will pay the club an unknown sum of Bitcoin (BTC) as part of a new sponsorship arrangement.

Anycoin Direct will remain an official partner of PSV Eindhoven for the next two seasons, according to the official announcement, with the purpose of increasing crypto awareness across Europe.

PSV Eindhoven will be able to collect the complete sponsorship amount in Bitcoin by utilising the crypto platform’s services, making it the first major football club in the European Union to do so.

After the arrangement was struck, PSV Eindhoven commercial director Frans Janssen reportedly created Bitcoin wallets to take the sponsorships.

“As a club in the heart of the Brainport region, we are always innovating, cryptocurrency fits well into this picture,” he said, endorsing the decision.

The sponsorship amount is Euro 400000 and PSV Eindhoven becomes the first european football club to get fully sponsored by bitcoin.

PSV tested nonfungible tokens (NFT) earlier this year by auctioning a digital facsimile of the 1988 European Cup Final, which it had won against Benfica. To emphasise the significance of the victory for the club, the NFT was accompanied by an official certificate signed by Hans van Breukelen, the championship goalie.

Here’s a short ad of collaboration.
