Google has deleted eight phoney bitcoin mining applications that were created to deceive unsuspecting users.
In-app purchases for these apps ranged from $14.99 to $189.99.
Over 120 phoney bitcoin mining applications are still available online, according to security research firm Trend Micro.
Cryptocurrency is all the latest craze, and dangerous applications and hackers are here to take advantage of the current crypto frenzy, as is customary. These applications are intended to deceive unsuspecting users into downloading them to their cellphones.
Google has removed eight of the most hazardous crypto applications from the Play Store. These applications were created to trick unwary users into downloading and installing them on their phones. These applications used the standard “get rich quick” plan to entice users to deposit money in a “cloud mining service” and profit from it.
“Despite these apps not being associated with cloud-mining operations or having any cryptocurrency-mining features, some of these apps prompt users to pay for increased cryptocurrency-mining capabilities via the apps’ in-app billing systems that range from $14.99 to as high as $189.99,” the Trend Micro report stated.
The eight prohibited applications, according to security company Trend Micro, compelled users to view advertising and charged an average monthly cost of $115 (about $1114). These applications also offered that users might pay for more mining power by purchasing their preferred crypto “machines” in the cloud.
“The app called Daily Bitcoin Rewards – Cloud Based Mining System prompts its users to upgrade their crypto mining capacity by “buying” their favourite mining machines to earn more coins at a faster rate,” according to the study.
Google has banned the following eight apps:
- BitFunds – Crypto Cloud Mining
- Bitcoin Miner – Cloud Mining
- Bitcoin (BTC) – Pool Mining Cloud Wallet
- Crypto Holic – Bitcoin Cloud Mining
- Daily Bitcoin Rewards – Cloud Based Mining System
- Bitcoin 2021
- MineBit Pro – Crypto Cloud Mining & btc miner
- Ethereum (ETH) – Pool Mining Cloud
According to Trend Micro, there are still over 120 phoney bitcoin mining applications accessible. According to the security research organization, these applications have harmed over 4,500 people in the last year. It is recommended that you delete any of these applications if you have them installed on your phone. To do so, go to Settings -> Apps, touch on the app’s name, and then choose ‘Uninstall’.
