Manish Malhotra Launches His First NFT Artwork

Manish Malhotra has been the first Indian fashion designer to collaborate with Lakme Fashion Week to release five NFTs.

NFT stands for non-fungible token, which is a unique and non-transferable unit of data recorded on a digital ledger.

It establishes a verified and public proof of ownership using blockchain technology. WazirX NFT Marketplace received the NFTs.

The designer wrote on twitter, “A thought (minted) into digital reality; my virtual store on the Manish Malhotra website was an initial step towards expanding into the tech space. NFT had to be the next one.”

Manish’s hand-drawn sketch of one of his most popular designs — a blue sari worn by Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani — was among the NFTs. ‘Memorable Sketch’ is the title of the piece (2013). For Rs 20,2319.27, the NFT was sold.

Manish’s hand-drawn drawing of the embroidered black lehenga he designed for Kareena Kapoor for a 2019 award presentation was the other NFT. Rs 27,5889.91 was the selling price.

A hand-drawn sketch of his blue chikankari lehenga worn by Alia Bhatt in 2018 was the other fashion NFT that was sold.

The description on social media reads, “Manish Malhotra’s hand-drawn sketch illustrates the revival of the craft in its modernised form by the women of Mijwan Welfare Society, an NGO founded by Shabana Azmi, Namrata Goyal, and Manish Malhotra to extend support to female artisans by generating education and employment.” The NFT was sold for Rs 16,0935.78 and was titled ‘Illustrious Sketch-Chikankari.’

With all of the portfolios such as jewellery, home, and beauty, the Manish Malhotra world has become its own entity. And all of these verticals are doing exceptionally well, and the response has been humbling.
