Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, said in a tweet on Friday that the meme-based cryptocurrency Dogecoin will be accepted as payment for products such as the “Giga Texas” belt buckle and tiny electric vehicle models.

The Tweet got over 219K Likes and over 38K Re-Tweets.

Dogecoin Soared Up to 25 Per Cent

The news, which pushed Dogecoin prices up 25%, comes only a month after Musk said that Tesla will test the digital token as a payment alternative. Musk, a vociferous proponent of cryptocurrencies, has had a significant impact on the values of Dogecoin and bitcoin. He previously stated that the firm would take bitcoin for vehicle purchases before abandoning those plans.

Tesla’s products, which includes the recently released “Cyberwhistle” and “Cyberquad for Kids,” is a popular with the company’s fans and generally sells out within hours of being listed. Some have observed that products sold in doge sell out even quicker than goods sold in dollars.

Musk’s tweets about Dogecoin, including one in which he referred to it as the “people’s crypto,” have turned the once-obscure digital currency into a speculator’s fantasy.

Many users replied to the Tweet and posted their views and memes on the microblogging site.

In an interview with Time, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, stated that Dogecoin is a superior currency in terms of daily transactions.
