The United Nations And Unique Network
The UN chose the blockchain platform Unique Network recently to implement the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) initiative. This initiative is to inspire other people and NFT enthusiasts to take action against climate change. There was an announcement on Tuesday last week. According to it, the blockchain platform Unique Network will become the leading technology partner of the United Nations Human Settlements Program and the International Association for the Advancement of Innovative Approaches to Global Challenges. This will replicate the work of young artists in the form of NFTs. Moreover, there is a program titled Digital Art for Climate Action Empowerment, or DigitalArt4Climate. This program encourages creators and artists to display works of art and inspires people to find better solutions for the environment.
The group said:
“The United Nations has recognized NFT technology as a unique new medium for creative expression that can help amplify messages about climate action. The U.N. wants to bring this innovative art form to the next generation of creators who stand to benefit from a technology that can help them amplify and monetize their work.”
Unique Networks is a parachain project in the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystems. This platform is going to create as well as host an NFT market for the project of raising and inspiring others to take strict actions against climate change. At present, according to the United Nations Program, there are a lot of developers who participated passionately in a virtual hackathon last month. They did this to create a digital art gallery and market to display artworks of DigitalArt4Climate. It will start accepting project contributions from August 12th.
The UN Says
The UN has previously announced that it will investigate the possibility of using blockchain technology. It will help to combat climate change and contribute to a more resilient global economy. The organization has obviously never been directly involved in promoting the development of NFT. However, from the UN Global Compact, at least one member has been involved in this. At the beginning of this month, Enjin stated that it would explore ways to use NFT. This initiative is in order to promote sustainability and fairness.
Enjin is the NFT and the blockchain gaming platform. The impact of climate change seems to be intensifying. So, corporate attitudes towards the environment have attracted more and more attention from investors and users. Also, the United Nations lists 17 sustainable development goals that it will try to achieve by 2030. This includes reducing inequality, providing quality education, and promoting responsible consumption and production.
