Since 2013, John McAfee and his wife Janice McAfee have been married. Janice and John first met in 2012, when John hired her as a prostitute and paid her. During the first few years of their marriage, Janice revealed in an interview that she had to pass information about McAfee to a ‘criminal underlord.’ Janice stated in the interview that her criminal connections forced her to provide information about John’s whereabouts and told her to hide poison in his food.
Janice also disclosed that she was initially afraid to defy the criminals and did not inform McAfee of the situation. According to John McAfee, who revealed this in the same interview, the couple eventually figured out what was going on and moved to a luxury yacht to avoid arrest and criminal elements.
According to reports, Janice McAfee told a news channel that John had saved her from a life of human trafficking and allowed her to make a connection with her son again.
In 2020 Janice tweeted:
Janice wrote, “John’s honesty has often gotten him in trouble with corrupt governments and corrupt government officials because of his outspoken nature and his refusal to be extorted, intimidated or silenced,”
She said “Now the US authorities are determined to have John die in prison to make an example of him for speaking out against the corruption within their government agencies”.
McAfee was found dead in a Barcelona jail three days later, with his death ruled a suicide and foul play ruled out by Spanish authorities.
McAffee had previously warned, “Know that if I hang myself, a la Epstein, it will be no fault of mine,”
“No hope of him ever [to] have a fair trial in America because there is no longer any justice in America.” his wife had stated in her message.
“You either play ball or get f**Ked. Those are literally the only options now,” Janice stated. “Before you were innocent until proven guilty but somehow that has changed to guilty until proven innocent,”
“Now anyone can level the most heinous accusations against you without any proof and having no basis in reality but in the court of public opinion, you are tried, convicted, found guilty and your life irreparably destroyed, all before having your day in court,” Janice said.
“These eight months John has spent in prison in Spain have been especially hard on his overall health both mentally and physically, as well as financially, but he is undeterred from continuing to speak truth to power,” she insisted.
While John McAfee was in jail in Spain on June 20, Janice McAfee tweeted him a Happy Father’s Day message. McAfee was loved and appreciated, she said in the message. John was a polarizing figure, she stated, but he was always honest about himself.
She signed off, “Happy Father’s Day John David, Father of many, loved by few.”
“His last words to me were ‘I love you and I will call you in the evening’, those words are not words of someone who is suicidal,” Janice said when she visited Brians 2 prison in Sant Esteve Sesrovires.
A U.S. embassy spokesperson said: “We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death, and stand ready to provide all appropriate assistance to the family. Out of respect to the family during this difficult time, we have no further comment.”
Her tweets about the US government’s plans to put John McAfee to death in prison have sparked a few conspiracy theories about the circumstances of his death. The Spanish government approved the US government’s request to extradite McAfee to the United States on June 23. McAfee was found dead in the Spanish prison where he was being held a few hours later.
