Twitter Marks 13th Anniversary Of The Very First Bitcoin Tweet Today

There have been a lot of memorable tweets on crypto Twitter, but none of them compare to Hal Finney’s.

It’s been a year of anniversaries for Bitcoin recently. The most recent of which being the 13th anniversary of the first tweet about the cryptocurrency.

It was created by Hal Finney. Finney, a coder and cryptographer who has been cited as a probable contender for Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity and was undoubtedly the beneficiary of the first bitcoin transfer on January 12th. It didn’t say much, but it demonstrated that, even if he wasn’t Satoshi, he was most likely the first crypto miner.

On January 11, 2009, a well-known cryptographer tweeted about running Bitcoin. It was the first recorded tweet regarding the biggest cryptocurrency. No one could have predicted that this experiment would result in a multi-billion-dollar enterprise at the time. It was only a week after the genesis block was mined when the tweet was sent.

Finney got the first Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto himself. As a result, there was a lot of conjecture that he was the founder of Bitcoin, which the late cypherpunk refuted.

Many other users commented “Still Running” on the same Tweet made by Finney on the occasion of 13th anniversary of the Tweet.

Finney also sent numerous more prophetic tweets regarding increasing cryptocurrency privacy and coping with its carbon impact just over a week after his famous “running Bitcoin” statement.

Finney had the insight to forecast the broad acceptance of cryptocurrency mining, despite the fact that the Bitcoin network needed a little amount of energy when he first used it. Bitcoin’s environmental consequences have risen to the fore now that it consumes more power than several countries.

Finney died at the age of 58 after losing his fight with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis after witnessing Bitcoin’s first steps toward widespread acceptance and becoming a prominent member of the Bitcoin community (ALS).

In 2014, Finney’s body was cryonically frozen in the hopes of being resurrected in the future. Finney famously prophesied that the price of Bitcoin will reach $10 million one day.
